The Pilsen region sent 8 education specialists to Hordaland, Norway. The focus of the study visit was on talented pupils. The main goal of the project was to share inspiration and know-how in terms of talented pupils and their needs as well as the support of teachers who deal with talented pupils.

The meeting took place in Hordaland administration council in Bergen. To fulfil the goals of the project, our group had to learn about Norwegian educational system, the support of talented pupils / students and the system of teacher training programmes. Then the members of working group discussed the goals of cooperation and ways how to achieve them.

The visit of Fyllingsdalen Videregaende skole (http://fyv.hfk.no) was an important and interesting part of the programme. The upper secondary school with its 580 students and 80 members of staff combines practical VET programmes with general studies so our group could have a look at modern facilities for nursing programme and also took part in rehearsing for school trip workshop.

In the afternoon we could watch students during “Youth Election Debate”. Young members of political parties discussed political issues chosen by student presenters in very professional, enthusiastic and civilized way.

Hardanger maritime centre in Norheimsund (https://fartoyvern.no) showed us very interesting combination of museum, educational centre and workshop preserving the old traditional boat building crafts. The centre is also the place for VET training for students of old techniques of building boats.

The Kavli Symposium at University of Bergen showed us how to endorse “Passion for Science” among young people. Secondary school students were invited to three presentations and interviews with Kavli Prize awarded scientists. The symposium is not the only opportunity students from upper secondary schools have to get to Bergen University – students with curiosity, passion for science and talent as well can actually study some subjects at the university while they are still at an upper secondary school.

VilVite Science Centre (www.vilvite.no) offers interesting activities for children to develop their creativity and curiosity usually after schools, however the centre tries to pick up talented pupils at regional schools to offer them 8-day-programme during the school year that develops their skills and knowledge at STEM subjects.

On the last day our group reviewed and summarized information and experiences and discussed the further ways of the cooperation. In terms of inspiration, special needs of talented children and useful contacts, the first study visit was very fruitful. The second activity is going to take place in Pilsen region in October 2019.

The project is financed by the Programme Education EEA Grants 2014-2021. Expected amount of funds is €66,000.
